Bought this rod and reel set as a back up for my kids and found the reel was as smooth as my more expensive Penn 5 CatfishJakob Ive had this rod and reel for 8 months now and i go fishing at least 3 times a week and it has worked great for catching catfish i have caught a 22 pound blue cat on this rod so i would definitely consider buying this for the price.( my reel has stripped gears now) but lasted 8 months
